Assessment
The Henley MBA is all about practical application. So, the design of any assessment is based around resolving practical business-related challenges. In many cases you will be asked to take on the role of a strategic advisor, or consultant. The outputs of your work will therefore have practical relevance but also be robust.
Practical Assignments
We use a variety of approaches with each assignment to ground what you learn into real businesses and their key issues. In some cases you will be asked to do a piece of consulting work, whilst other tasks ask you to take on the role of a strategic analyst.
Each stage of the MBA has practical assignments that test your ability to apply what you have learned to real situations. This can be in your own organisation, one with which you are familiar, a business that has asked the school to work for it, or a consulting assignment you are engaged with. Learning from the programme is focused on direct application to the workplace, ensuring high relevance for programme members and employers alike. Collectively, Henley MBA programme members add a great deal of value to a wide range of business problems each year through their assignment work.
Case Study Examinations
Examinations are designed to test your knowledge and ability in core subjects and provide the stimulus to review learning and revise subject matter. Each examination is practically-driven and consists of one or more case studies relating to an organisation. We will require you to apply your learning to address an organisation's challenges. Assessment is not only based on the coherence of your answers, but also on the creativity and practicality of your recommendations.
Research Based Consultancy Project - The Management Challenge
The Management Challenge, a research-based consultancy project at Stage 3 of the MBA, requires students to apply a range of knowledge and skills to a real organisational issue or problem and, through rigorous analysis, generate relevant and practicable solutions or recommendations.
Students are required to use their intellect, self-discipline and project management skills to produce a piece of work that demonstrates they can work at Masters level and add value to the organisation for whom they undertake the Challenge, as well as managing their own learning and development. Students can also, in some cases, work on larger projects that require a team of programme members to solve more substantial and complex problems.
The process and outcomes of the management challenge gives MBA programme members the experience of delivering strategic consulting in a live environment. It also allows them to directly apply their knowledge from many subjects to provide substantial value for a business. |
